# Elections

Emissaries Prime are elected two ways:

* Internal election ([Emissary vote](https://docs.echelon.io/echelon-prime-foundation/4.0-governance/4.2-emissaries-prime/bulletin-voting))
* General election ([Community vote](https://docs.echelon.io/echelon-prime-foundation/4.0-governance/4.1-governance-proposals/proposal-voting))

The internal election happens before near the end of each term. EPs score each other in terms of relative contribution. A minority of EPs (maximum of four) are selected via Emissary vote. A majority are selected via Community vote.
